Economical Advantages

There are significant economic benefits associated with UCG projects. These include;

• Lower capital and operating costs in comparison to traditional coal mining due to minimal infrastructure
• Industry will provide a number of local jobs for regional communities
• Substantially increases the world’s energy reserves by providing access to previously unmineable coal
• Eliminates the need to bring the coal to the surface to be gasified
• Syngas can be piped directly to the end user, or utilised on-site for power generation or chemical processing – minimising transport costs and infrastructure required
• Resource recovery utilising UCG is significantly greater than Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Underground Longwall Mining as illustrated in the diagram below;
